“I taught myself how to sew. We had a 1960’s residential sewing machine that was made with steel gears that could sew outdoor fabrics. I’d sit under the air conditioner in a gazebo to stay cool in the Arizona summers,” Tony recalls about those days more than three decades ago.
It was here that the “Paddy O’ Difference” was born with its focus on providing superior customer service and value, and establishing our goal to help people find their patio bliss with their outdoor lifestyle furnishings. By creating the right atmosphere, family and friends can connect through special memories made right in one’s own backyard.
“Outdoor furniture is easy to be passionate about. It represents the best things in life,” Tony acknowledges. “Getting outdoors with family and friends to create memories is what it is all about – we all need to unplug and connect.”
By 1990, Paddy O’ expanded and began to sell some of the biggest name brands in outdoor furniture. The business moved from the tree nursery in 1991 to its first showroom on Bell Road in North Phoenix, and as business grew, additional locations were opened across the Valley of the Sun.
But Tony saw a need for furniture that could withstand the extreme heat and intense sunlight of the Arizona desert. Over the next decade, the Paddy O’ team began designing, developing, and sourcing exclusive lines of furniture that were constructed with higher quality to deliver durability and long-lasting value. With its new product lines, Paddy O’ could offer customers more value, including better warranties than any other outdoor furniture on the market.
Paddy O’ Furniture continuously made improvements to the construction of its furniture, added UV inhibitors to its woven wicker designs, and refined paint coatings to ensure all materials would hold up better in the desert climate. “If it can stand up to Arizona’s climate,” Tony likes to say, “We know it will last anywhere.”
In 2017, Paddy O' created the game-changer in outdoor furniture: the innovative Bliss Cushion. Unlike other cushion brands, our Bliss Cushion features a fabric that is waterproof, dustproof, stain resistant, fade resistant, antimicrobial, and easy to clean. By 2018, Paddy O’ Furniture expanded its online shopping presence and opened a showroom in Nashville. Paddy O’s reputation for outstanding customer service, lasting products, extraordinary warranties, and a worry-free shopping experience has generated consumer trust that results in repeat customers and word-of-mouth referrals. For the past eight years, Paddy O’ Furniture has been voted Arizona’s #1 Outdoor Furniture Retailer in the annual Ranking Arizona consumer poll.
Today, Paddy O’ is once again designing and building furniture locally – this time with all-weather, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) lumber that looks like natural wood but is more durable because it is made with recycled plastics. Paddy O’s Patriot and Adirondack collections are exclusively manufactured at our Phoenix-based facility and feature sustainable HDPE Ecolumber in warm wood grain patterns and vibrant colors.
